Risk Management in a Mobile Scenario

Tilo DickoppResearcher
University of Mannheim, Germany

Technology risk management is a mostly uncovered area for knowledge management applications in finance. In this presentation a method is presented that applies semantic web technologies such as the Web Ontology Language (OWL) and automatic reasoning for supporting knowledge-intensive risk management processes. Since effective risk management requires decision makers to access a knowledge base often and from everywhere it is the next logical step to implement mobile applications for this purpose. However, semantic web technologies are heavy-weight and difficult to implement in the limited resources of a mobile environment. Solutions for this problem are investigated in this presentation.
Tilo Dickopp is a researcher in the Information Systems Department at the University of Mannheim, Germany. He is investigating mobile technologies and computational economics.

OpenDisc

Let’s face it even at its discounted prices most students can’t afford proprietary software such as Microsoft Office or Adobe Creative and Design Suites.  Enter - Free and Open Source Software.

The OpenEducationDisc is a collection of high quality Free and Open Source Software that cover the most common tasks you will need for school work. All programs have been carefully selected by Teachers and Computer Specialists who believe that you shouldn't have to pay lots of money to get a good education.
The entire disc can be downloaded from the following site:

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/opendisc/OpenEducationDisc.09.01.iso
However, for your convenience, we’ve listed a few useful links to software most commonly used by the Information Systems student. Click on the logo to view its website.

Substitute for - Microsoft Office
Designed by the best as a single piece of software, OpenOffice was created to help you. This complete All-in-One Office Suite contains all that is needed for a productive day at the office, from word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. OpenOffice is the best overall solution.

Substitute for - Publisher
Scribus
is an open-source program that brings award-winning professional page layout to Linux/Unix, MacOS X, OS/2 and Windows desktops with a combination of "press-ready" output and new approaches to page layout. Underneath the modern and user friendly interface, Scribus supports professional publishing features, such as CMYK color, separations, ICC color management and versatile PDF creation.

Substitute for - Visio
Dia is inspired by the commercial Windows program 'Visio', though more geared towards informal diagrams for casual use. It can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and many other diagrams. It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the shape.

Substitute for - Photoshop
GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a freely available open source application for creating and manipulating graphic images that runs on Linux, other Unix-based operating systems, and also on Windows and Mac OS X.

Substitute for - Dreamweaver
KompoZer is a complete web authoring system that combines web file management and easy-to-use WYSIWYG web page editing.

Substitute for - Illustrator

An Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.

Inkscape supports many advanced SVG features (markers, clones, alpha blending, etc.) and great care is taken in designing a streamlined interface. It is very easy to edit nodes, perform complex path operations, trace bitmaps and much more. We also aim to maintain a thriving user and developer community by using open, community-oriented development.
